Senior journalist and prime time anchor Faye DSouza confirmed on Tuesday, 10 September, that she would be moving away from managing day-to-day operations of Times Network’s second English news channel Mirror Now.
While the official statement shared by the Times Network does confirm that DSouza is “moving away from managing daily operations of the brand,” it adds that she would continue to be associated with the network and the channel.
"“Regarding ongoing speculation surrounding Faye DSouza’s disengagement with Mirror Now, this is to clarify that Faye continues to be associated with Times Network and Mirror Now. Having played a pivotal role in establishing a strong position for Mirror Now, Faye moves away from managing daily operations of the brand and will now be responsible for creating and presenting flagship shows on Mirror Now in addition to steering new shows, IPs and ground events for the Network.”" - The Times Network
Reiterating the network’s statement, Faye further added that she was humbled and deeply touched by the messages she received from her fans and supporters. Here is her full statement as she tweeted.
No One Can Replace Her: Twitterati on Faye D’Souza Quitting as Prime Time Anchor
Earlier, after rumours of DSouza quitting her role as a prime time anchor spread, many took to Twitter to voice their disappointment.
Since her appointment as the prime time anchor and executive editor of the network’s second English news channel in 2017, DSouza has made quite a stir within the broadcast news scene by raising issues such as poor road conditions, drinking water availability, sanitation and women’s safety.
She didn’t shy away from questioning concerned authorities regarding these issues, either. While her fearless approach to news brought her many trolls online, she was equally celebrated by her audience, fans and celebrities alike. The news of her resignation has saddened her fans as is obvious from these tweets.
I have been on the show of .@fayedsouza few times and found her unimaginably unbiased in her questions to panelists. She was truly a voice of sanity and integrity, values which hardly find buyers among media owners, of course for reasons like fear or favor. https://t.co/8wTeosPgye— Adv. #FayeDsouza was the voice of ethical journalism, not caring for any ideology but issues of the people of India! Her leaving the Mirror Now channel is a tragedy!— Sundar Nair (@NairSundar) September 10, 2019
Dispassionate news has taken a Sabbath and there will be nothing to differentiate this channel from others!
U never spread hatred, u never shouted to put ur point across, u just followed the basic ethics of journalism @fayedsouza and women like us always look upto u. U have resigned from a job it just means u refused to not be people's voice. More power to u ❤️ #FayeDsouza https://t.co/HG38jOrw2E— Sakshi Joshi (@sakshijoshii) September 9, 2019
DSouza has often been credited for being the voice of people’s issues, and for asking hard but important questions.
Given that, her sudden resignation has led to many speculating if her decision was a result of political pressure.
This is an absolute shame: https://t.co/DVFcG6MUYx— Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) September 9, 2019
IF she was forced out by political pressure, she enters a Hall of Fame occupied by @bdutt, Karan Thapar, @ghoshworld &other illustrious names. But Indian media plunges further into darkness.
Hers was a voice of passionate sanity.
Fantastic @fayedsouza, slayer of fascist ideas and a voice for poor, marginalised Indians has been silenced as a prime time anchor. She'll be great in her new @romedy Oprah style role, but— Karuna Nundy (@karunanundy) September 9, 2019
the blow to integrity and truth in prime time TV news is massive. https://t.co/Mv5RCIZOT7
One more Journalist who has paid the price for speaking out. The system now needs propagandists and not those who stick to journalism.— SANJAY HEGDE (@sanjayuvacha) September 9, 2019
One of our finest TV journalists @fayedsouza has resigned (made to) from MirrorNow. She raised the biggest issues & spoke truth to power. Obviously it annoyed the establishment who then put pressure on the Times management to replace her. Very Unfortunate https://t.co/TNGRY1Vir6— Prashant Bhushan (@pbhushan1) September 9, 2019
.@fayedsouza has been shown door from Mirror Now.— प्रशान्त पटेल उमराव (@ippatel) September 9, 2019
Now make Koharram of Attack on FoE & Emergency!
. @ajitanjum @fayedsouza @Smita_Sharma & now @nit_set .... In just a few days the last remaining flickers of journalism being eased out. Perhaps just a coincidence or perhaps the impending sign on the total clampdown that's about to come. https://t.co/3FEpEdv6d4— Akash Banerjee (@TheDeshBhakt) September 10, 2019
While there is no official announcement on the specifics of her further role within the organisation, her recent tweets teased an upcoming celebrity chat show on Romedy Now where guests like Swara Bhasker and Richa Chaddha would appear.
