UPDATE: Police are investigating a 19-year-old female student from the university for allegedly providing false information on being assaulted along Nanyang Walk on Saturday evening.
SINGAPORE — Students on the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) campus have been urged to stay indoors due to a reported case of assault that had occurred within school grounds, according to a message posted by its student union early Sunday morning (15 December).
An Instagram account belonging to the school’s union posted the announcement addressing its members at about 1.30am.
”NTUSU understands that there has been a recent reported case of assault that happened on campus. Those that were involved are currently aiding the police on their ongoing investigation,” the Instagram story read.
It urged members who are currently on campus to stay indoors for their “own safety” and to “better aid the ongoing investigations”.
“Safety is of utmost importance. As part of the NTU community, let’s look out for one another. If you see anything suspicious, please do not hesitate to dial the Campus Security hotline or the Emergency Hotline,” it added.
Mentions of the incident began to circulate as early as 12.30am on social media.
According to various online media reports, several police cars have been sighted on campus.
As of publication time, there have been no updates on the purported incident published on the university’s official social media accounts and website.
