Odisha's COVID-19 death toll rises to 1,765, tally at 3,20,803

Bhubaneswar, Dec 5 (PTI) Odisha's COVID-19 caseload mounted to 3,20,803 on Saturday after 409 people tested positive for the virus, while five more fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,765, a health department official said.

The fresh cases were detected in 27 of the state's 30 districts, of which 234 came from quarantine centres and the remaining were local-contact infections.

Sundergarh district recorded the highest of 53 positive cases, followed by Khurda (44) and Angul (35). Three districts - Gajapati, Kandhamal and Subarnapur - did not register any fresh coronavirus case during the last 24 hours, he said.

'Regret to inform the demise of five COVID-19 patients while under treatment in hospitals,' the Health and Family Welfare Department said on Twitter.

The deaths were reported from Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh and Puri districts.

A total of 53 other COVID-19 patients have also died so far, but the state government attributed the cause of their deaths to comorbidities.

Khurda alone has accounted for 301 fatalities, followed by Ganjam (245), Sundergarh (149), Cuttack (134) and Puri (105), the official said.

Odisha now has 4,320 active cases, while 3,14,665 patients have recovered from the disease so far.

The state has thus far conducted over 61.02 lakh sample tests, including 41,860 on Friday. The positivity rate stands at 5.26 per cent. PTI AAM RBT RBT
