Meghan Markle and Prince Harry haven’t been senior members of the royal family for over a year now. This also means their official royal Instagram account, @SussexRoyal, has been dormant for just as long. However, before they officially shut down their joint page, they made sure to make one major change.
Last March, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a message of thanks to their 11.3 million Instagram followers and said goodbye. They shared an image that included their official royal cipher and read, “Thank you to this community—for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world.” They simply signed it, “Harry & Meghan.”
But before the shutdown, the duo changed the accounts that they followed, which have remained the same ever since. Rather than only following one account as per usual, they follow three.
While the account was active, the royal couple revealed that their social media would feature only one charity or organization each month. For the month of March 2020 (their last month as senior royals), Meghan and Harry highlighted @TanksGoodNews. The royal couple shared an inspiring video and explained their decision in the caption, writing, “This month, we continue on the good news path and are pleased to be following @TanksGoodNews, as a reminder of all the good that is happening in the world. We hope it uplifts and inspires you!”
So, while SussexRoyal may no longer be an active account, the Sussexes clearly want to keep a continued focus on the organizations that mean so much to them. Subtle and sweet.
