Padma Lakshmi just turned 50 on Tuesday, September 1 (HBD, Padma!!!), and she celebrated with two bikini Instagram pics and a reflection on her previous 365 days around the sun.
The Top Chef and Taste the Nation host described the past year as “a mix of misery and elation,” but says she’s become closer to her family and is thrilled to have built “a show from scratch.”
“I cannot ask for anything more. I am truly blessed: a loving and attentive partner, a child that continues to be a miracle every day and work that I am proud of and fully engaged by with people I love,” she wrote. “I am today very lucky. But I am also a product of the toil and troubles my younger self endured. And I thank that version of me.”
While Padma’s message was meaningful, it’s kinda hard to miss the fact that she looks like that in a bikini at 50. In the first photo, she looks down while standing next to the ocean with her abs on full display. In the second, she's hanging out in the pool with her family, and you can see her core muscles flex as she reaches up toward the sky.
“You are a beautiful human inside and out 💕,” one person wrote in the comments. “Happy Birthday 🎂 your body is incredible 🔥🔥” another said.
Padma told Women’s Health in July that she’s now trying to be healthier than she’s been in the past. She likes to split her plate into 50 percent fruits and veggies; 50 percent simple carbs, starch, and lean protein. She also tries to eat a largely plant-based diet when she’s not filming, but she has some chicken, fish, ground turkey, and veal, here and there.
She also goes hard on the workout front. Padma tries to work out at least five times a week for 90 minutes, and recently, she’s been big on jumping rope. (She does 2,000 strokes every day, which takes about 35 minutes.) Padma also does FaceTime sessions with her Pilates instructor twice a week.
“Pilates changed my body,” she said. “It made me strong in places I didn’t know I needed to be. I have a butt now that I didn’t have during my modeling career!”
Aaand that’s how you look so amazing in a bikini at 50.
