We caught up with Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor who are busy with the promotions of their upcoming film Namaste England. We spoke about the allegations levelled by Tanushree Dutta against Nana Patekar and why Bollywood took so long to acknowledge her truth. Parineeti opened up what would she do if she found herself in a similar situation.
Former actor and model Tanushree Dutta has accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of sexual harassment on the sets of the film Horn 'Ok' Pleassss in 2008. In an interview with Zoom TV on 26 September, Tanushree accused Nana Patekar of wanting to touch her inappropriately and having insisted on shooting an intimate song sequence in the film, even though it was not mentioned in her contract. Freida Pinto, Farhan Akhtar, Priyanka Chopra, Twinkle Khanna and others have lent their support to Dutta. But Tanushree wants Bollywood celebrities to stop working with Nana Patekar.
It took some time for Bollywood to finally acknowledge the incident and come out and support Tanushree Dutta. Farhan Akhtar was the first one to voice his support for Dutta. Replying to a thread on Twitter posted by journalist Janice Sequeira who shared a first-hand account of what happened on the sets of the film Horn ok Pleassss in 2008, Farhan Akhtar wrote:
"This thread is very telling. @janiceseq85 was there at the time of the incident being debated today. Even when #TanushreeDutta had career concerns to keep quiet 10 years ago she did not & her story hasn’t changed now. Her courage should be admired, not her intention questioned."
Later Priyanka Chopra, Parineeti Chopra, Richa Chadha, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker, Raveena Tandon tweeted their reactions. Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan too expressed their solidarity.
