Parvathy Uses Bipolar Word Casually; Gets Called Out & Apologises

After the panel discussion conducted by celebrated film critic Anupama Chopra, where she interviewed actors Parvathy Thiruvothu, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, Manoj Bajpayee, Alia Bhatt, Vijay Sethupathi and Vijay Deverakonda, many headlines followed.

However, one talking point, which was missed by contemporary media, was pointed by a Twitter user, Divya Kanduri.

For context, here's what happened.

During the interview, Parvathy, who is a celebrated and outspoken actor was criticising the romanticised portrayal of abusive relationships in the movie, Arjun Reddy.

And while her comments were extremely insightful, one word stuck out as a sore thumb. Parvathy had used the word 'bipolar' in her criticism of the visual grammar of the film.

But soon after Divya posted that clip, Parvathy responded to her tweet, by saying this.

Parvathy, ActorHi Divya! Came across this comment. Thank you! It was a wrong choice of words and I stand corrected. This is important as I myself have been trying to unlearn usages that allow using grave mental disabilities as a mere “adjective” to explain a situation.

The actor added that the word she was looking for was "two extremes."

Further, she ended her tweet by saying that "We learn - unlearn- learn, encore!"

If only other Bollywood actors and influencers too could own up to their trivialising mental health conditions, and vow to act better!
