Thirty-three people are confirmed dead after a horrific attack on a Japanese animation studio in Kyoto.

The Associated Press reported that a man, who does not work for Kyoto Animation, ran into the three-storey building and yelled “You die!”. Police in the area said this man sprayed a liquid around the studio and it caught fire.

The 41-year-old suspect has been detained and taken to the hospital with injuries.

Another 36 people were critically injured in the attack that Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe described as "too appalling for words".
