Imagine a world where you get married and everyone doesn't immediately start asking when you plan to put your uterus in action and become a mother? Princess Eugenie, who married husband Jack Brooksbank in October, became the latest person in the public eye to bear the brunt of pregnancy speculation when she went outside recently wearing - wait for it - a dress that was loose fitting.
Eugenie was photographed leaving fancy Mayfair restaurant, George, last week, and it triggered rumours she and Jack are expecting a baby. Not only was the shape of the Princess' flowing dress a clue, according to theExpress, but also its floral design. "Strong patterns are a known styling technique to distract viewers from the person’s figure," suggested the report.
Other clues in the pictures that apparently point towards Eugenie being pregnant include a hand on her stomach (although I'm pretty certain that's purely down to camera perspective, and she's not actually stroking her belly), and the bunch of flowers she's clutching, which some people are reading into as another distraction technique.
While the pictures don't scream 'PREGNANT' to me in the slightest, if you remember how Meghan Markle covered her midriff with folders when she landed in Australia, you might see how comparisons have been drawn. The Duchess of Sussex used the folders to hide her growing baby bump from photographers a day before she and Prince Harry announced they were expecting baby Archie, preventing any early speculation that might ruin their exciting news.
Meghan and Harry revealed their pregnancy just five months after getting married. With Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank having been officially husband and wife for seven months now - and with the excitement of baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor arriving - it's not really surprising that the focus is on them to announce the next royal baby. But how about just letting them enjoy being married, without applying external pressures to hurry up and start a family?
It's not the first time speculation has kicked off about Eugenie and Jack expecting a baby. In January, bookies' odds hit record lows for the couple to announce they were expecting a royal baby. At the time, betting intelligence site bookmakers.tv, revealed odds dropped to 8/13, suggesting there had been a flurry of peopling gambling on the topic.
"The odds of Eugenie and Jack sharing some good news soon have taken another plunge with the latest betting definitely suggests there could be an announcement around the corner," said a spokesperson for the site. But four months later, with no pregnancy announcement in sight, we know that wasn't the case - bad luck, anyone who placed a bet.
If and when Eugenie and Jack do decide to start a family, we'll be happy for them - but until then, shall we give them a break?
