Piers Morgan brutally confronted Jo Swinson on Good Morning Britain over her pledge to cancel Brexit and revoke Article 50 if the Liberal Democrats achieved a majority in the next general election.

The Lib Dem leader promised to thwart Brexit if her party ever gets into no.10 and she was elected prime minister.

Yesterday, Swinson accused Boris Johnson of not acting in the national interest, saying the prime minister "is prepared to ride roughshod over our democracy.".

But this morning, presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid lambasted the politician's new policy calling her hypocritical for ignoring the will of 17.4 million people and "cancelling the democratic vote".

Members of the Lib Dems voted on Sunday at the Party Conference in Bournemouth to actively campaign for the revocation of Article 50 ahead of the next general election.

Speaking from Bournemouth, she said: “Now, we had a referendum three and a half years ago and the government has gone away and negotiated what that means for the British public.”

She said that she now wants to let the British public know what is on offer today.

“In that case, you may have justification for a second referendum,” Susanna replied.

“But democrat is part of you name and you said you won’t respect the democratic vote of the people.

“You’re just going to cancel the democratic vote.”

Ms Swinson's rebuttal was that they are still campaigning for a people’s vote.

Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid lambasted the politician's new policy for threatening to ignore the will of 17.4 million people and "cancel the democratic vote".

"A referendum is the best way to get clarity and resolution of this current gridlock.

“But it does look like a general election will be upon us. In that democratic process, the Lib Dems will petition to stop Brexit.”

“Our position on this election… We will be saying if you elect a Lib Dem, we will revoke Article 50," she added.

“If the people of this country then elect to majority Lib Dem vote then we will do what we said. That’s the way democracy works.”

Piers then tore into the Lib Dem leader for turning on the people who voted to leave the European Union.

“When you had a vote that you give to the people, you say Paddy Ashdown wanted to stop Brexit,” he said.

“But he said, if the result comes back the other way you absolutely have to honour that result.

“Given that you fly so loose now, if you were to win a general election, it’s unlikely, say you win, why should I accept it? Why shouldn’t I immediately stand up and say nope not having it I refuse to accept it?”

When asked how she would react if Boris Johnson won a general election to go ahead with a No Deal Brexit, Jo insisted she would continue to petition for Brexit to be stopped.

“I am determined to get rid of Brexit… I am sticking to that absolutely clearly,” Jo stated.

“If I am elected as Prime Minister, don’t be surprised if I stick my by word and stop Brexit.”

“I have lived through two referendums and I do think we have a very divided country at the moment and there is a lot of us who want to come together.”
