Piers Morgan has weighed on on an expletive-laden rant by Hugh Grant following Boris Johnson’s decision to suspend Parliament.

Mr Grant had branded the Prime Minister an “over-promoted rubber bath toy” in a furious tweet following the decision.

But Piers Morgan hit back at the actor, branding him a “virtue-signalling little tw*t” and reminding his followers of his arrest in Los Angeles with sex worker Divine Brown 20 years ago.

Mr Grant had responded on Twitter to a video in which Mr Johnson gave an explanation for his decision to suspend Parliament in September - a move that critics have branded undemocratic.

More than one million people have signed a petition against the decision, while thousands of people rallied for hours outside Parliament on Wednesday night.

Mr Grant tweeted: “You will not f*** with my children’s future. You will not destroy the freedoms my grandfather fought two world wars to defend.

“F*** off you over-promoted rubber bath toy. Britain is revolted by you and you little gang of masturbatory prefects.”

But Mr Morgan hit back, first quoting Mr Grant’s tweet with the comment: “Oh shut up you virtue-signalling little twat”.

He later posted the Four Weddings and a Funeral star’s police mug shot with the comment: “Halo Hugh... Britain’s moral standard-bearer”.

On Wednesday the Queen approved Mr Johnson’s request to prorogue - or suspend - Parliament no earlier than September 9 and no later than September 12, until October 14.

Parliament returns from its summer recess on September 3 and opposition leaders had been hoping to use the period after to work on a law to prevent a no-deal Brexit.
