Poll: Should 'Padmavati' be allowed to release?

Arguably the most awaited movie of  2017, ‘Padmavati’ has run into controversy again with several from Jaipur’s royal Rajput clan calling for a ban on its release.

This anger stems from reports that the film is based on a distorted version of historical events written by the court poet of Alauddin Khilji (played by Ranveer Singh), who protestors claim is shown sharing an intimate sequence with Padmavati (Deepika Padukone).

BJP and Congress leaders both have accused director Sanjay Leela Bhansali of romanticising the relationship between Padmavati and Khilji in the 13th-14th century, rather than highlighting Padmini’s sacrifice.

As a result, the sets of the movie have been a constant target of vandalization and arson since early this year. As recently as last week, a massive demonstration was held against the film in Queen Padmini’s hometown of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, with the Karni Sena at the forefront of things.

Do you think ‘Padmavati’ should be pre-judged even before release? Should the film-makers be allowed to practice a certain level of creative liberty after having stated their disclaimers? Do you think the Rajput community is overreacting? Should the film be released without further ado and commotion?
