'Poster girl' of Jamia protests heckled by CPM workers

Aysha Renna, who was hailed as the ‘Shero’ by a section of media during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests at the Jamia Millia Islamia University, was heckled and forced to apologise by irate workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala on Saturday.

The incident happened during a rally in Kondotty when Renna berated Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s government over the arrests of many activists who were participating in in the protests against CAA and NRC in the state.

“It is the inherent nature of some CPM members to suppress the voice of women. They would conduct programmes to empower women and, at the same time, take steps to suppress the voices of women. All of them know about it. However, as far as I understand, there are two opinions among the CPM members on my statement. Some members did not want me to apologise,” she had said.

Her comments drew furious reaction from the CPM members who heckled her at the event and demanded an apology which she ultimately tendered.

Renna shot to fame when a video of her allegedly saving a man from the police during the anti-CAA protests in Jamia Millia Islamia University went viral. Later, she deleted her Facebook account after a series of her bigoted and radical views — in which she hailed Yakub Menon and Afzal Guru on the social media website -- came to light.
