As far as pregnancy cravings go, cow’s milk isn’t too out there - unless you are a committed vegan, which is exactly what has happened to musician Grimes.

The Canadian singer claims to have not touched cow’s milk in 20 years, but recent cravings have seen her go back on her vegan principles and indulge in some animal products as that is what her body appears to be craving.

She told Harper’s Bazaar during a discussion about her favourite foods: “Lately the one pregnancy craving I have is just a glass of milk, which is so weird because I haven’t had a glass of milk in probably 20 years.

“Lately I’ve just been having a glass of milk… just cow’s milk. It’s probably become clear I’m not vegan during this time. This trying time.”

But despite usually being vegan, Grimes does not enjoy fruit or vegetables, saying she only usually likes “carbs and fats” but is eating them during her pregnancy to help her unborn baby.

“I actually dislike vegetables pointedly, but they’re important to eat. It’s just vile, like broccoli? Like what the f**k? It’s actually disgusting, I don’t know how anyone eats it.”

The singer, born Claire Boucher, announced she was expecting a baby with tech billionaire Elon Musk, who she has been in a relationship with since January.

She has yet to reveal the gender of the baby, and when asked about it online by fans, she responded to say the baby “may decide their fate and identity”.

She had previously said in a YouTube livestream: “I don’t want to say the gender of the baby … because I feel like their privacy should be protected. I don’t think they can consent to being famous or being in public.

“And I don’t want to gender them in case that’s not how they feel in their life. I don’t know, I just feel like it doesn’t need to be known.”

The 31-year-old released her fifth studio album Miss Anthropocene in February of this year.
