A budget supermarket bottle of prosecco has taken the top spot as the best in the UK.

The £8 bottle of Morrison’s own-brand prosecco clinched the prestigious Good Housekeeping award after a Christmas taste test.

The festive taste test involves tasting all the Christmas food and drink on offer and picking the best in each category.

The Morrison’s bottle scored 89/100 beating out the likes of Aldi and Lidl. Harvey Nichols’ £16 bottle of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore came second.

Out of the 12 high-street brands, Morrison’s £3.75 bottle of mulled wine also took the top spot, followed by Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference £6 bottle.

Morrison’s might have come out on top in the alcohol department, but the main winner on the day was Tesco, which had number one spots in meat stuffing, gluten-free mince pies, veggie mains, and Christmas ham categories.

We have one question: how do we get on that tasting panel?

The experts blind tasted a whopping 383 different Christmas products across 20 categories to select their favourites.

Onto the very important matter of the Christmas roast dinner, now. Marks & Spencer came first in the frozen turkey and crowns category.

Its £14.40 Turkey Breast Crown with Pork, Sage, and Onion Stuffing received a score of 84/100.

Arguably more important than anything else is the roast potatoes. McCain’s Roasts (£3.10) stole the show in this department with a score of 85/100.

“Testers loved the fantastic crunch and deep flavour of these spuds, which were also praised for its beef dripping coating.” Good Housekeeping said.

The spokesperson continued: “We’ve tested and tasted great products from a wide range of retailers and brands from Aldi and Lidl to EAT, Ocado and M&S, proving that regardless of price, more and more thought is being given to the taste, dietary requirements and versatility of all products being sold this Christmas.”

It’s a hard job, but somebody’s got to do it.
