Puducherry logs 35 new COVID-19 cases, overall tally rises to

38,646 Puducherry, Jan 17 (PTI) The union territory of Puducherry logged 35 new COVID-19 cases taking the overall tally to38,646, a top Health Department official said on Sunday.

No fresh fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, Director of the Department of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release.

The death toll remained at642, he added.

The 35 new cases were identified at the end of the examination of 2,535 samples and were spread over Puducherry region (30), Karaikal (three) and Mahe (2), he said, adding no fresh infection was reported from Yanam.

The fatality and recovery rates were 1.66 per cent and 97.6 per cent respectively.

Kumar said that 37 patients were discharged after recovery during the last 24 hours.

As many as 5.34 lakh samples were tested so far and of them 4.91 lakh samples turned out to be negative, he said and added that the overall tally of cases stood at 38,646.

The number of active cases stood at 284 while 37,720 patients had recovered and were discharged so far, Mohan Kumar said.PTI Cor SS PTI PTI
