During Diwali 2017, three movies were supposed to clash at the box office - Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's 2.0, Ajay Devgn - Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Again and Aamir Khan's Secret Superstar.

This Diwali, there will be one cracker less to be fired during the box office clash. During Diwali 2017, three movies were supposed to clash at the box office – Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar’s 2.0, Ajay Devgn – Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Again and Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar. However, the biggie has backed out of the clash, as 2.0 will not release on Diwali this year. Instead, it will release on January 25, 2018, which means disappointment to all Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar fans who want to catch the mega-budget movie this year itself.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed in his tweets that the major reason for postponing the movie to next year was because the team wanted to achieve world class standards when it comes to the VFX of the movie. He had tweeted this, “#BreakingNews: #2Point0 will NOT release in Diwali 2017… Team wishes to achieve world class standards in VFX… Now 25 Jan 2018 release…”. He also mentioned that Diwali will now be a clear field for Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgn for their movies to fight for the better share of the box office earnings.

Though we can buy into 2.0’s ‘polishing of VFX’ excuse, we also have to remember that the new release date of the movie is around the Republic Day weekend, which is Akshay Kumar’s favourite hunting weekend. Interestingly, his best collaborator, director Neeraj Pandey will also be releasing his spy thriller, Aiyaary, on 26 January 2018. Aiyaary stars Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee in the lead. This move of 2.0 will certainly dent in Aiyaary’s box office prospects.

We wonder what Akshay Kumar and Neeraj Pandey has to say about this.
