Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor were spotted outside director and producer Luv Ranjan’s house on Friday, 19 July, which have led fans to speculate that a new film is on the cards. Deepika was seen in black with matching shades and Ranbir was dressed in a white t-shirt and jeans.
The two actors were last seen together in 2015’s Tamasha and have also co-starred in Bachna Ae Haseeno and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
A report by Mumbai Mirror from March suggests that rather than the rom-coms Ranjan is known for, the film will be an action thriller starring Ranbir Kapoor and Ajay Devgn, a second collaboration for the actors after Prakash Jha's 2010 political drama Rajneeti. A source was quoted as saying that the film would be produced on a huge budget and would be shot across international locations. It is reportedly set to go on floors later this year with an aim for a Christmas 2020 release.
While neither Deepika, Ranbir or Luv Ranjan’s team have officially confirmed any details, some fans have taken to social media to say that if the news is true, they would be extremely disappointed with Deepika’s choice to work with Luv Ranjan, who was accused of sexual harassment by an actor who chose to remain anonymous during the #MeToo movement that swept Bollywood last year.
Being the top actress of your country you have many people looking upto you, it is YOUR responsibility to set the right example. Are you even aware of how you are gonna promote someone who has sexually harassed other women by working in his film? #NotMyDeepika— ??? ❦ (@MonaDarlingx) July 20, 2019
@deepikapadukone youre in an unimaginable position of power, misusing it like this will be incredibly unfortunate. Young girls who look up to you as well as victims who have directly endured agony and suffered in this movement. Deepika Padukone recently finished filming Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak, a film based on the real-life story of Laxmi Aggarwal, who survived an acid attack in 2005 at the age of 15. Part of the film will reportedly explore the PIL that was subsequently filed in the Supreme Court in 2006 and which lead to the amendment of laws regarding acid attacks in 2013. Deepika plays a character named Malti in the film with Vikrant Massey in a role based on that of Laxmi’s partner, social activist Alok Dixit. Chhapaak releases on 10 January 2020.
Deepika will also be seen opposite Ranveer Singh in 83. Ranveer plays former Indian skipper Kapil Dev in the sports drama with Deepika as his wife Romi Bhatia. 83 hits theatres on 10 April 2020.
Ranbir Kapoor currently has fantasy drama Brahmastra in the pipeline. The film has been directed by Ayan Mukerji and also stars Alia Bhatt. It is expected to release in summer 2020.
