There is always a certain kind of excitement and realness in watching cinema where art imitates real life. Films inspired from real life incidents depict reality on the reel which bring history into life. Not to forget, they are engrossing, nail-biting and most importantly, 100 percent original. While today’s cinema is all about biopics and real life stories which has become more of a trend off lately, we bring you a few films which took inspiration from what actually happened in some part of time!

Pad Man : Inspired by the life of social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu, Pad Man was a path-breaking film. Akshay Kumar played the role of Arunachalam who a made a sanitary pad machine to provide inexpensive sanitary pads to the women of rural India. The film was awe-inspiring and worked well among the masses as well.

Super 30 : Narrating the life of mathematician Anand Kumar and his educational program of the same name, Super 30 was a biopic on Anand’s life & struggles which was portrayed beautifully on the screen by Hrithik Roshan. The film was a huge hit and was declared tax-free in more 5 states and was one of the major hits of 2019.

Neerja : The film’s plot is based on a real-life event: Libyan-backed Abu Nidal Organization’s hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan, on 5 September 1986. The film is shown from the point of view of the flight’s head purser, Neerja Bhanot played by Sonam Kapoor, who thwarted the hijack attempt by alerting the pilots, thus grounding the plane. The courageous Neerja sacrificed her life while protecting the lives of 359 passengers.

Sarbjit : Starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Randeep Hooda, Richa Chadha in pivotal roles, Sarbjit is the biopic of Sarabjit Singh, a farmer residing at Bhikiwind, Punjab, near the Indo-Pak border, crossed the border after having a couple of drinks. The film threw light on the life of an Indian man who was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1991 and who consequently spent 22 years in prison for alleged terrorism and spying.

Sanju : One of the most successful films of Ranbir Kapoor, Sanju is the biopic of Bollywood actor, Sanjay Dutt. The film shows how Sanjay Dutt begun acting, his phase in life where he was addicted to drugs and even went to a rehab and how he came out it, how he lost his parents and much more. Ranbir went on to win the Best Actor trophy in the Filmfare awards that year as well for his commendable act.
