In the early years of TV18, Vandana Malik, the former director of Network 18, was a one-woman army in the company’s Mumbai bureau. She and her cameraperson went around in a gypsy whenever they had to go for a shoot.
As Network 18 grew, she took a back seat but she was always one of the closest confidants of Raghav Bahl, the founder of Network 18 and her younger brother. Vandana confesses that one of the main reasons why Network 18’s film business failed was because Raghav was not in direct charge of the business, and of creative and financial decisions.
In the book, Network 18 – The Audacious Story of a Start-up That Became a Media Empire, for the first time Vandana Malik opens up about her brother Raghav and how he rises every time there is a crisis.
Network 18: The Audacious Story of a Start-up That Became a Media Empire, published by Portfolio Penguin, was launched in September 2016 as a hardback. The paperback edition of the book is now out in bookstores and is also available online.
