In the India tour of Australia, the third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played at Sydney Cricket Ground. The hosts won the first Test match on the third day at Adelaide while the visitors won the second match of the bilateral series by eight wickets on the fourth day at Melbourne.

The third Test will mark Rohit Sharma’s return in India’s playing XI of the longer format after recovering from the hamstring injury which he picked up in the IPL 2020. The prolific opener was dropped from the limited-overs and first two Tests of bilateral series of the India tour of Australia due to the injury. After rehabilitating at NCA in Bengaluru, the 33-year-old cricketer was declared fit after he was examined on December 11. After going through the mandatory 14-day quarantine, the right-handed batsman joined the Indian team for practice sessions at Melbourne on December 30 and is all set to open the innings at the SCG on January 7. Team India’s vice-captain for the last two Test match has scored 556 runs in five matches at a staggering average of 92.66 as an opener in the longest format. The Mumbai Indians’ captain got 2141 runs to his name at a healthy average of 46.54.

David Warner had a groin injury while fielding in the second ODI of the on-going bilateral series. The southpaw was ruled out from the limited-overs series and first two Test matches. Warner has recovered and is set to open the batting in the third Test match. Warner has played 84 Test matches in which he scored 7244 runs at an average of 48.95.

Two of the highly acclaimed openers of the modern day cricket Rohit Sharma and David Warner will mark their return for their respective teams in the third Test match where the series has levelled 1-1. The two teams will be aiming to take a lead and go 2-1 up in the on-going bilateral series.
