ROYAL ASCOT 2020: Today's tips as sun set to rise again on Japan

Ryan Moore riding Japan win The King Edward VII Stakes at last year's Royal Ascot. He'll go off favourite for today's Prince of Wales Stakes

Nothing says Royal Ascot like The Queen and Frankie Dettori and First Receiver could give Her Majesty a 24th winner at the meeting, writes James Toney.

The combination of owner, jockey and trainer Sir Michael Stoute - with 81 wins the most successful handler in the history of the meeting - would appear irresistible in the Hampton Court Stakes (1.50pm).

And the horse romped home at Kempton earlier this month to earn this royal appointment, which appears written in the stars.

However, don't let heart rule head with Aidan O'Brien's Russian Emperor, an impeccably-bred Galileo colt, likely to bounce back from a disappointing run in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown.

Even more appealing is Andrew Balding's BERLIN TANGO, who seems set to lead rivals a merry dance despite a penalty from a classy show at Kempton, where he beat Pyledriver, the impressive winner of yesterday's King Edward VII Stakes.

If Tango obliges then the horse he beat on his last start, Bright Melody, looks an intriguing prospect for Charlie Appleby in the King George V Stakes (2.25pm).

However, Sir Mark Prescott's BODYLINE will relish the increase in trip when he lines up in the 18 runner field - he was staying on strongly in the closing stages of his last race and an extra two furlongs seem just what he needs.

Ten-time leading trainer O'Brien saw Circus Maximus top the bill yesterday but was then left scratching his head as Derby fancy Mogul produced a stuttering show.

However, JAPAN appears ready to restore order on his return to the course where he won last year's King Edward VII Stakes.

He will relish the good ground, having won the Juddmonte International Stakes in a thriller last season, but was also an impressive fourth - just four lengths behind the winner - at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, quality form no-one else in the race can match.

Andrew Balding is justifiably feeling bullish about the hopes of BELL ROCK in the Royal Hunt Cup (3.35pm) after a searing run on good ground at Newmarket earlier this month.

And if you like his chances then you'll need to respect OUZO, who he beat by a short head in that race, who looks a strong pick for trainer Richard Hannon in the Silver Royal Hunt Cup (1.15pm).

American trainer Wesley Ward knows a thing or two about speedy two-year olds and there is plenty to like about SUNSHINE CITY in the Windsor Castle Stakes (4.10pm), with Dettori booked to take the ride.

The Copper Horse Handicap (4.40pm) looks primed for Hugo Palmer's Frankel colt COLLIDE, who won well at Chelmsford this month and has the class to shirk off the resulting penalty.

Today’s Royal Ascot selections : 1.15 Ouzo, 1.50 Berlin Tango, 2.25 Bodyline, 3.00 Japan, 3.35 Bell Rock, 4.10pm Sunshine City, 4.40pm Collide
