Tell us about yourself and your area of work. What inspired you to create this career for yourself?

I am Sasha Anne, a beauty influencer, founder of Teeny Wee Cosmetics and a singer/songwriter. I found out that I had dyslexia when I was in 3rd grade. It was very hard for me to express myself. As I got older I found the power of makeup. I realized I could express myself through different makeup looks based on my emotions and also express myself through dance and music. I always loved to create, dances, songs, costumes, skits. When I was 17 I wanted to create my own cosmetics company. I was passionate about makeup. My idea was that lip glosses should be smaller. Rarely does anyone keep a lip gloss till it’s finished? Plus it’s impossible to cram the larger size lip gloss into a small purse or a jeans pocket with our phones. I persevered. It was much harder than I thought it would be, but I did not give up. Besides following my passions and dreams I wanted to inspire others and show them that dyslexia should not get in the way of pursuing dreams. You can do whatever your heart desires if you put everything into it and if you love what you are doing.

What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects you are working on now?

Since it is Halloween season, I’m working on my series called “Sassoween”. I post a new makeup transformation every Thursday night until October 31st. I’m also working on getting my music out there. I’m also working on my first book – so stay tuned!

Which tips would you recommend to anyone in the influencer industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

I would recommend taking a mental health day every once in a while because it can get overwhelming in the industry. For me, I am invited to many events so I have to remember that it’s ok to say no sometimes. The past few years have been exceptionally busy. I’m constantly thinking of new ideas for videos for my YouTube channel and then I need to film, and edit. Posting on Instagram is important as well because it keeps me connected with my followers. So the best tip would be – Take a breather sometimes. Another tip is to stick to your niche. Stay focused on the message you want to get out there. Don’t fall off your path because then your followers will get confused.

You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the good to the most people, what would that be?

You never know what your idea can trigger. I would like to start a positivity movement. There is so much negativity in the world and I would like to see what would happen if people would start being kinder to each other. No harsh words. No snide remarks. Be empathetic. Criticize carefully. Smile more, it’s catching.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?

“Everything happens for a reason” I don’t know if anyone in particular coined that phrase. But I learned that everything in life does happen for a reason. I had a very tough childhood in terms of bullying in school. I was shy and my friends were my Barbie dolls. I created an imaginary world for myself with my costumes and my songs. Learning how to forge ahead as a little girl and make things brighter for myself has strengthened me and taught me resiliency. The world is a tough place. It’s important to find the good and focus on the positive.

None of us can achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful to who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?

My mom has gotten me to where I am today. She gives me the best advice on how to stay focused when I’m juggling school work (I am a full-time student FIT (the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC studying Marketing and Communications), filming my videos, promoting Teeny Wee lipgloss, going to red carpet events, attending fashion week, and everything else I try to jam into my day. I sometimes get overwhelmed. She sees the big picture more clearly than anyone else I know. She is my rock.

Please tell us more about your Instagram/ YouTube platforms.

My YouTube platform is what propelled me forward. At 17 I was nominated for a Shorty Award in the Beauty category for my Cinderella transformation video. The Shorty Awards recognize excellence in short films and videos. I lost to Aveda! But, I was so honored to be recognized in a category with such a big brand. Then the following year I won the Audience Award for my Gal Gadot/Wonder Woman YouTube transformation video on empowerment. My Instagram platform is a great way to stay connected with my followers. I post a few times a week. Visual connection is the key now. And with Instagram -one photo tells an entire story. You can follow me on Instagram@simplysashaanne and my YouTube, Sasha Anne.

How do you plan to grow your brand in the near future?

I am currently meeting with other brands to collaborate. I am focusing more intently on my core target audience which is age 12-24. I will be promoting the brand more consistently online to appeal to buyers who love to purchase online. And I will be adding more colors and probably a Teeny Wee eyeshadow palette.
