Wondering what to do with your kids now that they are on Home-based Learning programme and the June holidays fast arriving? Give your child a break from homework. They deserve it! Try these 5 ways to keep your children mentally stimulated while having fun as you #stayhome with them. Let’s get on with them!

1. Play a new musical instrument

No music background? Pianos, violins or drums too much of an investment for the household? Fret not. Try alternatives like the ukulele, a 4-stringed version of the guitar, and the 17-key Kalimba which originated in Africa and played using your thumbs. They are not only affordable but two of the easiest musical instruments to pick up! We are in love with the pineapple ukulele and these animal-shaped kalimbas.

Every child will probably have a recorder or flute at home thanks to music lessons in school. If not, these eye-catching metallic and eco-friendly flutes are sure to grab anyone’s attention. Get a preferred musical instrument yourself and form a family band!

2. Get crafty with art and craft projects

Do you love watercolour paintings but worried your kids would mess up the house and leave permanent stains? Try alternative art materials like Kuretake Clean Color Real Brush that delivers the same watercolour effect with none of the mess!

All you need is a drawing pad or sketchbooks, some art materials like water brushes and you are all set to go!

Make it meaningful and get them to make greeting cards for their loved ones like their grandparents, best friends and even the front-line medical staff. Challenge them further by setting a deadline for an art exhibition right at home before school reopens.

Love to nurture their arts side? Try these Do-It-Yourself crafts and other crafts that will hone their patience. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty with your kids, Crayola markers and washable crayons that are non-toxic for your children, are an absolute must-have for art projects.

3. Expand their mental acuity with puzzles

Sharpen your child's visual-spatial ability without bogging them down with tedious homework. It is called the school holidays for a reason. Add a spin to the usual 2D puzzles and encourage your kids to complete the puzzles with these glow-in-the-dark jigsaws. Or have a hand at these 3D jigsaw puzzles in globe design, dinosaur or this Titanic LED ship or the Frozen 2 Olaf 3D jigsaw puzzle.

Your boy would absolutely adore you for these Lego Ninjago building kits while your girl will be kept busy with Cinderella’s Carriage Ride Building Kit.

4. Strengthen family ties over board games

Wish to veer away from the usual board games? Try something more interactive like this Blindfolded Twister Game and Pictionary. The former promises to get participants all involved while the latter allows you to hone your doodling skills. All in all, these games guarantee a day of fun and laughter with high replay value. Are you and your family a fan of Harry Potter? You will love the Mattel Scrabble Harry Potter Edition.

There's no other board games for timely than the Pandemic Board game, Plague Crisis Dice Version and the Funny Pandemic Board Game Paper Cards. You may take this opportunity to shed light on the current coronavirus situation with your children and reemphasize the importance of practising personal hygiene and staying safe.

5. Read to your kids with flair

Reading to your kids transports both of you to a whole new world while allowing for deeper bonding. Classics like Roald Dahl's 16 book Collection, Dr. Seuss Cat In The Hat's 20 book collection, and the National Geographic Kids 25 book Collection, and the Chinese idioms storybooks are great ways to entertain while educating your children.
