This is the moment a two-year-old boy who fell from a 13th-floor balcony was caught by a downstairs neighbour who put his hands through the window bars to save him.
The man held onto the screaming toddler until firefighters prised the bars open and then dragged the youngster to safety.
The incident took place in the district of Baohe in the city of Hefei in China's Anhui Province at around 10pm on Sunday.
According to local media, the woman living below the boy’s family, identified as Yao Yulian, heard the boy crying outside her window and rushed to see what was happening.
The 12-floor resident was stunned when she saw the tot dangling from the above balcony and called her husband Jia Yun.
Thrusting his hands through the window bars, the man reportedly managed to grab the tot as he was about to fall and held onto his arms, securing him with a belt until help arrived at the scene.
Jia Yun, a retired firefighter, later told local media: "I didn't think much about it at the time, I was just thinking about saving the child.
"I will always do my best to help others in a situation like this one."
In video of the incident, the scared boy sobs as the rescuers can be heard saying: "It's okay, you're with us now, don't be afraid."
The youngster was reportedly left alone while his father went to a nearby shop and managed to climb over the edge of the balcony.
