Social media has a tendency of blowing things up and spreading rumours like wildfires. While some are harmless, other rumours, such as the frequent celebrity death hoaxes that do the rounds, tend to be quite sick and gruesome. Some people create such rumours as a joke or a prank, while others use them as a means of driving traffic to websites which are monetised by ads. Over the years, these death hoaxes have become more elaborate and believable, with photographic and video evidences attached.
