Moondru Mudichu : 1976

This film revolves around Sridevi, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. Both Kamal and Rajinikanth fall in love with their their college mate, Sridevi. But she reciprocates only to Kamal’s love as she finds Rajini insidious. During a picnic, Sridevi’s life falls apart when Kamal falls into the lake by accident and dies while the three of them are out boating. Rajini refuses to save him on the pretext that he doesn’t know how to swim and she comes to believe that he is a wicked person. In an unfortunate turn of events, Sridevi is forced to work as a maid in Rajini’s house only until she somehow manages to marry the father with the objective of extracting revenge on Rajini. She was all of 13 when she essayed the role of Rajinikanth’s step-mother in this film.

Before making inroads into Bollywood to become India’s first female superstar in the 80s, Sridevi was already the darling of South Indian cinema in the 70s. She won accolades even as a child artiste  debuting at the age of 4 in ‘Thunaivan’ and received a Kerala State Film Award for best child artiste for her performance in the Malayalam film ‘Poompatta’.
