His villainous turn as Udaybhan Singh Rathod in ‘Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior’ has been received very well by the audience. Just like ‘Omkara’ in 2006, Ajay Devgn was seen playing the title role in the film but just like the last film, when Saif managed to make a solid impression with his portrayal of the vile Langda Tyagi, this time around too he has made his presence felt. The film has emerged as a solid success and that has worked very well for everyone associated with the film. Saif has a busy year ahead of him with multiple films and a big digital show. The first to arrive would be ‘Jawaani Jaaneman’ which is releasing on 31st January.
As the promotional material of the film has indicated, Saif plays a man based in a foreign land who does not like to take responsibilities and likes to be in relationships without any strings attached. His character in the film does have shades of the ones he played in films like ‘Hum Tum’, ‘Salaam Namaste’ and ‘Cocktail’ but what makes things different this time around is that ‘Jawaani Jaaneman’ is a ‘grown-up’ coming-of-age film. In the film, the actor plays a middle-aged man who, one day, realises that he has a grown-up daughter, who is pregnant no less! The setup might seem similar to the aforementioned films but the story that is being told here seems to be novel and fresh and the kind which has not been explored in a Hindi film before.
Saif has a cameo in the Sushant Singh Rajput – Sanjana Sanghi starrer ‘Dil Bechara’. While there is not much known about his cameo appearance in the film, there are reports that he will be seen in the role of a writer. In ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’, he is paired opposite Rani Mukerji and it would be interesting to see them together after their last big-screen appearance which was way back in 2008 (‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’). There is also the big digital show ‘Taandav’ which will be streamed later this year on Amazon Prime Video. The show, which has Ali Abbas Zafar as the show-runner, is a political thriller featuring an ensemble cast which will be headlined by Saif. There is also the horror-comedy ‘Bhoot Police’ in which he will be seen playing a ghostbuster. Though the film has been delayed a bit, the shooting is expected to commence soon.
The success of ‘Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior’ and the accolades which has come his way post the release of the film has marked the beginning of a good professional year. Now, with his diverse slate of projects, 2020 looks like an exciting year ahead for Saif.
