This is the most flattering dress style of summer 2019

Smock dresses have taken over this summer

Summer trends aren’t always kind, but somehow, in 2019 we’ve been lucky. Instead of the usual array of denim shorts and crop tops we’ve been blessed with the resurgence of the smock dress.

The easy-to-wear silhouette has been a huge hit this summer, mainly due to a £39.99 Zara polkadot design that hit cult trend status back in July.

Although the flowy maxi dress had the benefit of a classic black and white polkadot print, its success was mainly down to its loose-fitting shape that has proven to be versatile and flattering for all ages and sizes - there’s even an Instagram page dedicated to women around the world wearing the dress.

However, the frock has been so much more than a one hit wonder, reminding women everywhere about the power of a stylish smock dress.

In fact, the silhouette has been so popular that the term ‘smock dress’ has been searched for an average of 110 times a day on Topshop in the last month alone. The retailers launching a range of their own hero smock dress designs that have become hugely popular with the floral sleeveless midi selling out in just over a week.
