Suranne Jones has revealed that her dad died in January after battling COVID.
The Gentleman Jack actress told fans of her loss in a heartbreaking post on Instagram to mark her late mum’s birthday.
Sharing a photograph of her parents cuddled up on a beach, she said she believed they were now together.
“Happy birthday mum. Forever on a beach in Cornwall with dad,” wrote the star.
She told fans: “Mum passed away 4 and a half years ago and my father sadly passed away this January after fighting COVID and the affect it had on his body (sic).”
Jones, 42, said she was “still coming to terms with it all”.
“I know they are together and today I want to celebrate them both,” she went on.
“My thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones.
“Today and always.”
Jones’s mother passed away in 2016 after being diagnosed with vascular dementia in her late fifties.
The actor previously opened up about the impact the loss of her mother had on her.
“At the time, it didn’t occur to me that I might lose her. Now…I can really appreciate how brave she was,” she told the Mirror.
“Mum’s illness brought our family closer and made us realise what an amazing person she is.”
Jones found fame as Karen McDonald in Corrie.
She is also known for TV series including Vincent, Doctor Foster and Gentleman Jack, in which she plays landowner and industrialist Anne Lister.
