Despite our diligent attempts to keep breakouts at bay, sometimes we need a little extra help getting our skin looking its best.
By now, you know that wearing sunscreen every day is non-negotiable. But, are you aware that some sun-protection products can do more than shield your skin from harmful rays?
Researchers at Yale have developed a non-mineral sunscreen that doesn’t penetrate the skin. Dermatologists, beauty editors, and mothers around the world all recommend wearing sunscreen as their number one beauty tip, but recently, we’ve discovered that not all sunscreens are created equal: In our pursuit to avoid damage, some studies claim that ingredients in chemical sunscreens can seep into our skin and possibly enter our bloodstream. Consequently, frequent and consistent applications of these everyday sunscreens have been linked with hormonal side effects and possibly certain kinds of skin cancer.
As someone with a genetic predisposition to dark circles, I’ve been using eye cream since my teens. My mom, a makeup minimalist, had a cooling gel eye cream from the Body Shop I stole swipes of in middle school and was hooked ever since, using it morning and night. As a fair-skinned female, I’ve also had an obsession with sunscreen, but I had yet to find a great eye cream with SPF in it — or a designated eye sunscreen for summer. Now in my 30s and noticing the crinkles destined to become crow’s feet, I made this quest a priority and found nine formulas to suit a variety of needs, skintones, and seasons. Here are my top picks.
