In this special series of real life love stories for Valentine’s Day, we asked you to share how you met your soulmate. Here, one of our readers, Aditi tells us her romantic story of how she met Ashutosh. Hi, my name is Aditi and I met my husband Ashutosh at my office, where we worked for 5 years.
Valentine’s Day is just a week away. Love is in the air, well actually airwaves (read: social media). Heart-shaped cards, teddys, and balloons industries are working overtime to ensure that no couple is left disappointed on V-day. Well, we at Yahoo India thought we’d celebrate the season of love little differently. Instead of putting up typical lists of mushy love movies to watch or romantic books to read love stories of fictional characters, we want to put up real love stories of real people.
The whole idea that Valentines Day is just another day to spend money on gifts and flowers and chocolates, is in our opinion, just an excuse for the ones too lazy to go out and make their partner feel special. Sure, you’re technically supposed to make them feel special every day, but what’s wrong with a little extra-special a few times a year, right? And no, it doesn’t have to burn a hole in your pocket. Read on for some inexpensive, and basically free ways to celebrate love this year, even though VDay may have passed by in a jiffy:
There we were again, across the table, facing each other. I was stealing glimpses of his new ring. My mind had almost exploded with memories heaving up, memories that weighed way more than I could accommodate. Not a single memory spared clouding my thoughts. The five years of our relationship were complete with events, incidents, and promises. Some events were planned, others were unplanned, some incidents brought joys, and others fused with tears, some promises kept, some forsaken. But all in all, it was a great time we had spent together.
“Today is a holiday invented by greeting card companies to make people feel like crap,” Joel Barish had to say this about Valentine’s Day in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. A lot many of us agree with Joel, at least at some point in our lives. While the hype around February 14 can be exasperating, cynicism as well is somewhat off-putting; if you don’t want to celebrate, you can let the day pass peacefully, without giving in to the demands of a consumerist society. Nonetheless, Valentine’s Day brings us back to some of the evergreen romantic quotes from movies.

Flowers, chocolates, candlelight dinners are all passé, let’s take a look at some unique Valentine’s Day ideas that can actually make your day special. Perform For Bae When was the last time you sang for your love, or danced (or dirty danced)? Long back? Never? Well there is no better day than 14th February to do so. If you are sure your bae won’t shy away or get embarrassed with all the attention, give a smashing performance in a public space. For the “No PDA” kinds, a private performance within closed doors is sure to end up in endless kisses. An Entire Lifetime In A Day Ever heard your bae complaining that you don’t listen to them? Well now’s your chance to prove that you have been more than just good ears. Meet your bae early in the morning and in a span of 10 hours that follows, gift your bae all the experiences they ever desired. For instance, an hour in an amusement park, lunch at their favourite restaurant, charity for the cause they always wanted to stand up for, watch their favourite play, enjoy the sunset on the beach, go for the concert of their favourite artist and so on – all in one day. If you manage to do this, you will indeed become legen-(wait for it)-dary! Cook As cliché as the idea may sound, the fact remains that there is nothing better to please a human than food. You have probably already visited the best places in town. It’s time you prepared something you yourself never thought you could manage. Turn your hood into a cosy restaurant for two and surprise your bae with a buffet that you will prepare of course after opening the oldest and fine wine bottle. Treasure Hunt While gifting is common, the way you gift it can be novel. If you and your bae have the entire day to yourselves, create a map that leads to the gift. The catch would be that there would be tasks for them to perform and surprises on the way that will make them feel all the more special. You can involve a few close friends in this game too. Imagine how excited and special your bae will feel when one of the tasks is to watch a video that you recorded for them on their best friend’s phone to get the next clue. Play Genie Before V-Day, get in touch with your bae’s closest friends and find out the top three things or experiences they crave the most. Surprise them by doing all of that on Valentine’s Day. Watch the overwhelmed reactions of your bae, when they try to figure out how you added up all their deepest wishes and made it come true. With these unique ideas, you might just be able to set an example of the most romantic couple in your social circle. Give your bae the best Valentine’s Day they could never image!
Finding a vibrant lip color that’s truly flattering isn’t always as easy as it sounds — that’s why I love color-adjusting lipsticks and glosses.
Love, in its truest form, will engage people in doing things they never knew they were capable of. Love, like wine, gets better with time. The most powerful among all human emotions made an emperor build a castle in the remembrance of his deceased wife, and on the other hand, boosted a common man like Dashrath Manjhi to fight out a mighty mountain, all alone, carving out a way across its core. History has witnessed, lovers taking that extra mile to immortalize their love.
