With practice and consistency and a bit of surrender anything is possible.What I have learned in Yoga is that it is not important how far you reach in your asanas and whether you can perform difficult postures. It is not a performance. It is your journey. The more you involve yourself, the more devotion you have for your practice the more your body will follow. Breath will flow through you smoothly and you will reach wherever you want to reach effortlessly. Anything is possible when grace follows. Be patient and be consistent.MY YOGA JOURNEYInterestingly enough, I took up yoga training at the peak of my career as a marketing consultant and partner in a fast growing sports management company. Maybe it was a need to fill a void; or the need to contribute to the community/society that has given me so much, or for my own well-being. Maybe it was not just any one reason but a mix of all, but I left everything and took a month off from my seemingly perfectly balanced life to pursue a degree in yoga. It will not be an exaggeration if I say that this course changed my life. I was cut off from work, home and family — and as luck would have it my phone stopped working — for a whole month and that somehow brought everything into perspective. I came back a changed person. I did not waste time and quickly wrapped up my thriving business and took a sabbatical for a year to travel, to teach and to know myself. The entire year was a very rewarding experience — travelling to far flung places, teaching local kids and people breathed life back into me. I felt content. I felt stable.I have not looked back ever since. Teaching yoga has been the most gratifying experience for me. It requires a certain surrender and devotion when you are on the mat. My students give me more than I can give them through my teaching. I forget the world around me, I forget even my big and small problems when I am on the mat. But if you were to ask me what has yoga done for me? Physically I am fitter and stronger than ever before. I would like to believe that I don’t fall ill frequently like I did before. I suffered from low blood pressure all my life but after taking up yoga consistently my blood pressure is normal and so many such physical benefits. Mentally, I am more patient, more accepting of situations and people around me. There is a stability in my being which is extremely grounding and earthing. I would like to wrap up my journey by imploring everyone to start yoga practices. Don’t you want to feel young, energetic, healthy and happy? Why not start yoga?It is not religion-based and it never will be. There is no age and no time to start yoga. Anyone can do it. You just need to take that one step… just that one step to move towards change.
