A 17-year-old girl allegedly tried to pay for her parents to be murdered with £1,000 she stole from them.

Alyssa Hatcher, from Florida, United States, is accused of trying to hire two different people to kill her mum and dad after withdrawing cash using their debit card.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect’s boyfriend told them they both went to a “drug house” on Monday morning where she told him she wanted her parents dead.

Police added a witness saw the teenager handing over a large sum of money to her friend and then asking her to find an assassin.

Hatcher was detained for theft and two counts of criminal solicitation for murder.

She told officers during an interview she had stolen a total of $1,429 (£1,159) from her parents and gave her friend $400 (£324) to find an assassin, the affidavit said.

She added when her parents were not killed she hired “a black male” to do it instead for $900 (£730), ClickOrlando.com reported.

Hatcher also confessed to buying $100 (£81) worth of cocaine, according to documents.

Sgt Fred Jones said: “There were people who were saying on social media how much she hates her parents.

“There’s nothing that your parents can do - being you’re grounded, your car's taken away, you can’t go to the prom or wherever — for you to get to this point.

Hatcher has been released to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Police are still trying to determine a motive for the alleged crimes but it was reported she had posted a now-deleted Instagram picture of herself smiling, with “Ruthless” as the caption.
