Elon Musk’s Tesla India has registered itself as a company in Bengaluru. According to details on the Registrar of Companies website, Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited was incorporated on 8th January 2021 and the registered address is in Lavelle Road, Bengaluru.

Vaibhav Taneja, Tesla’s Chief Accounting Officer and David Feinstein, Senior Director, Global Trade and New Markets at Tesla are listed as directors of the incorporated entity. Just last month, Elon Musk had announced on Twitter that the company would be launching operations in India in 2021.

This comes on the back of the Karnataka government making a strong pitch to invite Tesla to the state. The state had offered various locations and solutions to Tesla, to enable them to set up manufacturing, R&D and a headquarters in the state. Also Tesla is in touch with state governments in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh as well.

Karnataka government has welcomed the move. “We welcome this move by Tesla to incorporate itself as a company in the state. There is no agreement with the state government yet, discussions will now follow”, said a senior official who did not wish to be named.

On Monday, there was speculation on Twitter about a possible tie-up between Tata Motors and Tesla but a Tata Motors spokesperson denied these reports. “Tata Motors has not taken any decision regarding a strategic partner for its PV business and categorically denies any and all rumours suggesting the same”, said a Tata Motors spokesperson.
