Welcomed with excellent reviews, the Taapsee Pannu starrer Thappad opened on a good note at the box office considering the serious topic of the film.
Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Taapsee Pannu starrer Thappad has impressed the audience with its first teaser, catchy trailer though the songs have not been quite popular. With Thappad, he brings in another social issue – domestic abuse.
Based on the hard-hitting incident, Thappad did not have any commercial value but has an advantage, being a solo box office release this week, considering both Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Vicky Kaushal starrer Bhoot have slowed down at the ticket window. Thappad managed to impress both critics and audience as per BookMyShow.com and will also be the third film of 2020 which is female oriented after Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak and Kangana Ranaut starrer Panga, both of which failed at the box office.
After giving knock-out performances in films like Pink, Badla and Saand Ki Aankh, Taapsee Pannu had stole the show in Thappad while Anubhav Sinha, had given yet another powerful drama after Mulk and Article 15. Welcomed with excellent reviews, Thappad has opened to an occupancy of 10-15% in the morning shows across India and picked up in the evening and night shows based on the favourable reviews, minting somewhere between Rs 3-3.50 crore which is better than Kangana Ranaut starrer Panga (Rs 2.70 crore) but lesser than that of Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak (Rs 4.77 crore) released this year.
With this first day collections, Thappad has become the 2nd highest opening film of 2020 in the women-oriented genre and 12th highest opening of all time in the same category.
