Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Taapsee Pannu starrer Thappad has impressed the audience with powerful performances, strong content and well-intentioned message.
Based on the hard-hitting incident, Thappad opened well, considering the serious subject of the film and competition from previous week’s releases – Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Vicky Kaushal starrer Bhoot. Thappad managed to impress both critics and audience as per BookMyShow.com and minted Rs 3.07 crore on first day which is better than Kangana Ranaut starrer Panga (Rs 2.70 crore) but lesser than that of Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak (Rs 4.77 crore) released this year.
After giving knock-out performances in films like Pink, Badla and Saand Ki Aankh, Taapsee Pannu had stole the show in Thappad while Anubhav Sinha, had given yet another powerful drama after Mulk and Article 15. Welcomed with excellent reviews, Thappad has opened to an occupancy of 10-15% in the morning shows across India and picked up in the evening and night shows based on the favourable reviews, minted Rs 3.07 crore on first day which is better than Kangana Ranaut starrer Panga (Rs 2.70 crore) but lesser than that of Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak (Rs 4.77 crore) released this year. There was a superb growth on Saturday, collecting Rs 5.05 crores, bringing the two days total to Rs 8.12 crore. Thappad is made on a budget of Rs 35 crore (Production cost is Rs 25 crore, Printing and Advertisement- Rs 10 crore) and has been released in 2000 screens across India.

The Kangana Ranaut starrer grew by a staggering 107.78% on day 2, collecting an amazing Rs 5.61 crore and bringing the two days total to Rs 8.31 crore. Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak received decent reviews as per BookMyShow.com which has led to an opening of just Rs 4.77 crore. There was slight growth on Saturday with Rs 6.90 crore, bringing the two days total to Rs 11.67 crore.
The budget of Chhapaak is Rs 45 crore ( Production Cost: 35 Crore , Prints & Advertising Cost: 10 Crore) and has been released in 1700 screens across India.
