WARNING: There are HUGE SPOILERS ahead for Avengers: Endgame. So if you’re somehow yet to see the highest grossing film of all time then you probably shouldn’t read ahead.
A brand new deleted scene scene for Avengers: Endgame has been released and it makes the death of Iron Man even more emotional.
You can check out the full clip, which shows the emotional reaction from all of The Avengers, and comes exclusively from USA Today, by clicking below.
As you’d expect, fans of the film were quick to share their emotional reactions to the clip, which would have come right after War Machine, Spider-Man, and Pepper Potts had given their own personal goodbyes to Tony Stark following his use of the Infinity Gauntlet, which defeated Thanos, but at the same time led to his sacrifice.
I love this 3,000. They should’ve kept this in. pic.twitter.com/u6voUizwKH— Jonathan Danker (@JonathanDanker) July 26, 2019
But why did the clip not make the final cut of Avengers: Endgame?
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo were able to give the answer to that very question to USA Today over email, explaining, "It’s a beautiful scene with moving performances, but we filmed it prior to Tony Stark’s funeral. The funeral scene ultimately became a more resonant and emotional reflection on Tony’s death for us."
Clearly this decision didn’t impact the release of Avengers: Endgame at all. Not only did it receive critical acclaim, to the tune of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it has since gone on to become the highest grossing film of all time, eclipsing Avatar’s previous record haul of $2.790 billion at the box office.
