Times When Horror Flicks Disappointed Big Time In Bollywood

There are many people who are literally suckers for good horror-genre films and Bollywood has continued to keep them away from enjoying quality horror. Guess why? Because they are hardly made in B-Town.

Horror is one of the most underrated and undiscovered genres in Bollywood as far as quality is concerned. There was a time when the famous duo of Ramsay Brothers were the sole movie-makers when it came to the horror genre and their films were below average to say the least. A few films like Raat, Bhoot, Raaz, Vaastu Shastra, Darna Mana Hai etc are a few examples where there was a ray of hope and we actually got thrilled. But these were mere expectations which did not instill the sense of seriousness in film-makers to discover the horror genre. Off lately, horror has become almost comical in B-Town.

The horror/thriller film, Raaz starring Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea was widely accepted and was a commercial success owing to the soulful music, gripping story and a strong villain who played the supernatural character with effect. We thought that Vikram Bhatt will bring glory to the genre of horror but the next three films of the franchise, Raaz : The Mystery ContinuesRaaz 3Raaz Reboot etc were plain duds. Same can be said for various Ramgopal Verma films who stunned everyone with Bhoot which starred Urmila Matondkar and Ajay Devgn in lead roles which remains a classic today when it comes to horror films.

In today’s times, it makes us go bonkers when horror films have a lot of sultry scenes where a lot of adult content is shown for no reason. Filmmakers have failed to understand that horror is not synonymous to adult-rated content and actors don’t need to have sex in every other frame. This is just plain stupid but is being continued till now. It is hard to recall a horror film in Bollywood in the last decade which has left a mark and has impressed & thrilled the audience. While B-Town horror-lovers find solace in Hollywood horror flicks as there is hardly any content here, we still remain positive in the hope that B-Town will soon see some quality horror cinema.
