Akshay Kumar‘s Toilet Ek Prem Katha has already earned Rs 100 crore day before yesterday and now it is only adding more to its swelling pile. In fact, after a very low second Friday, it took a good jump on second Saturday to earn Rs 106.8 crore. On Friday, it had earned Rs 4 crore only but then it saw an upward trend and earned Rs 6.75 crore on Saturday. Sunday is expected to be even bigger.
With that TEPK has become one of the superhits of the year. We only have a handful of that in 2017. Raees and Kaabil started off the year well but apart from Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Baahubali 2 and Hindi Medium, hardly any film could reach that category. Finally, we have a success story in TEPK and Bollywood can breathe easy. The slump was causing the industry lose crores and when your best bets at the box office like Salman, Shah Rukh Khan fail, you are in a fix. Thankfully for Akshay, he has continued his winning streak at the box office with his latest release as well. The fact that it was made at a meagre budget of Rs 18 crore (COP), TEPK had become a hit much before it touched the Rs 100 crore mark. All this is just bonus for the makers.
TEPK has as of now earned Rs 10.75 crore on its second weekend and is poised to gain more. The fact that it hardly has any competition, Akshay’s film will only mint more money at the box office. His films are a lesson on how to approach box office with smartness. You do your job of acting in it and make sure to create a buzz, rest will be taken care of the content of the film. Akshay’s move to rely mostly on content and less on gimmicks have paid off really well. It remains to be seen how far the film goes.
