For the entertainment industry, 2020 probably will be the worst year as the COVID-19 engulfed more than 50% of the profit especially for the Bollywood films released. There were few films which managed to make profit in the first quarter of 2020.

Bollywood films have suffered big time even after a solid opening in January. Not only the releases but even the shooting of Bollywood films were been stalled as the virus is taking a different angle now. While 2020 started with a bang as January, February month saw some decent performers like Malang and Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan. However, the Corona Virus scare engulfed more than 50% of the profit for Bollywood films in March. Except for Baaghi 3 and Thappad which could reach close to its budget, the highly anticipated and the last film of Irrfan Khan, Angrezi Medium, suffered the most as the cinema halls started the shutting down across the country on the first weekend of its release. The star of the show was definitely the Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan and Kajol starrer Tanhaji-The Unsung Warrior, which not only crossed the milestone in India but also became the highest grossing film of Ajay Devgn, collecting a massive 279.55 crore against a budget of Rs 150 crore.
Thanks to solid promotion, astounding trailer and popularity of Tiger Shroff, Shraddha Kapoor and the Baaghi franchise, Baaghi 3 became the best opening weekend film of 2020 beating Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji in both domestic and overseas market. Unfortunately, due to Corona Virus scare globally, cinema halls started shutting down and Baaghi 3 could manage to end its theater run with Rs 96.50 crore against a budget of Rs 100 crore.
Though Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Street Dancer got the second highest opening figure of 2020 at the domestic market, the dance-drama could collect Rs 73.97 crore against a budget of Rs 100 crore.
Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan was able to generate a decent return with Rs 62.05 crore against a budget of Rs 35 crore. Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Kunal Khemu and Anil Kapoor, Malang. Like Baaghi 3, Malang was a surprise hit with Rs 59.84 crore against a budget of Rs 50 crore.
One of the biggest disappointment was the much awaited Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan starrer Love Aaj Kal (2020). The romantic drama ran out of steam not just in the domestic market collecting just Rs 40.06 crore against a budget of Rs 60 crore.
