The Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif starrer Thugs Of Hindostan has failed and failed big time. So much is impact that exhibitors are protesting against it and wants to claim a refund from the makers of the most expensive film of Bollywood.
With a record-breaking Rs 52.25 crores (including 1.50 crores in the Tamil and Telgu version) on its first day at the box office, Thugs Of Hindostan could not sustain for the rest of days. Negative reviews, bad word-of-mouth publicity through Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media spread like fire. The collections started declining from day 2 onward and has not recovered till now. Looks like Thugs of Hindostan will wrap up its business in India at around Rs 150 crores
The impact of Thugs Of Hindostan was so much that producers Yash Raj Films, the actors and even the exhibitors have made money. There were few distributors (sub-distributors of Yash Raj Films) who have made some amount thanks to the commission of 10-12% from each territory. However, it was the exhibitors who have incurred the direct loss which is more than the Salman Khan starrer Tubelight. As per BollywoodHungama.com, few theaters have incurred loss close to 50% :-
Madhav Talkies (Bihar)
MG: Rs. 4 Lakh
Collection: Rs. 1.96 Lakh
Sangeet Cinema (Bihar)
MG: Rs. 4 Lakh
Collection: Rs. 2.15 Lakh
Nutan Cinema (Sitamrdi)
MG: Rs. 7.50 Lakh
Collection: Rs. 4.20 Lakh
Few exhibitors says “We had lost a similar amount on Tubelight as well, however Salman Khan refunded us the money. We plan to approach our territory distributors to claim refund because we know that they have made ample monies from this film due to the minimum guarantee contracts. We hope our message reaches out to Aamir Khan and YRF, who will help us get back our money from the territory distributors,”
Thugs Of Hindostan is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and also stars Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sheikh Sana in key roles. Thugs Of Hindostan is made on a budget of Rs 300 crores (Production Cost: Rs 275 Crores and Prints & Advertising Cost: Rs 25 Crores).
