Chhapaak is Deepika Padukone’s first release in two years
Deepika Padukone is one of the top actresses in Hindi cinema today. The actress, who made her debut in ‘Om Shanti Om’ in 2007, have had a 12 year long journey in the Hindi film industry and has seen her share of highs and lows. In the last couple of years though, her career has been on a constant upswing. Last year, she tied the knot with Ranveer Singh, thus life is good on the personal front too.
After the solid success of ‘Padmaavat’ (2019), Deepika chose to take a short break from films. Of course, there were advertisements, TVCs, ramp walks happening all along but she decided to take a much-deserved break from cinema for a year. A while after ‘Padmaavat’ became a roaring success, she signed Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Chhapaak’. The first look poster of the film, which released shortly after they started shooting for the film, shocked everybody! In the film, Deepika plays Malti, an acid attack survivor and the poster made it clear that she, along with Meghna and the team which was in-charge of putting together the prosthetics, had taken a lot of pains to ensure that they got the look right.
The trailer dropped earlier this week and got a very good response from the large number of people who saw it. The film has been inspired from several real-life events, including the one involving Laxmi Agrawal an acid-attack survivor who runs a campaign for stopping the commercial sale of acid. The trailer was hard-hitting and it is not a role which would have been easy to pull off for Deepika. She even broke down at the trailer launch talking about the film. Looking at the kind of efforts she has put in to play the challenging roles offered to her in the recent past, one is sure she would have left no stone unturned to play this sensitive part to perfection. Meghna Gulzar’s last two films ‘Talvar’ and ‘Raazi’ received widespread acclaim, in addition to reaping good returns at the box-office and if ‘Chhapaaak’ turns out to be the way everyone hopes it to be, this is a film and a character which Deepika would be proud to call her own for years.
