The Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff starrer WAR set the silver screen on fire as it broke the highest opening day record held by Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif starrer Thugs Of Hindostan at the box office.
The most awaited Bollywood film of 2019, WAR, finally hit the theaters yesterday with much fan fare and took a thunderous opening from 4000 screens across India. The advance collections of WAR which opened last Friday, was the third best (Rs 33 crore) after Avengers: Endgame – Rs 49.62 crore and Bahubali: The Conclusion – Rs 37.53 crore. The outstanding trailer (78 million views), chart bursting songs, Gandhi Jayanti holiday and early positive reviews from the audience led the action drama open to an occupancy of 70% in the morning shows across India and crossed the morning occupancy range of Salman Khan starrer Bharat which opened with 60% occupancy range. becoming the best opening film of 2019.
WAR picked post noon and got a stellar response from the paying audience, making a big impact at the ticket windows in the evening and night shows. By the end of the day, WAR had collected Rs 51.60 crore beating the record of the Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Thugs Of Hindostan, which holds the record for the highest opening day collection in Bollywood with Rs 50.75 crore (Hindi version). Co-incidentally, both films are produced by Yash Raj Films. With Tamil and Telugu version (Rs 1.75 crore), WAR has done a spellbinding business of Rs 53.75 crore and again beating Thugs Of Hindostan which collected Rs 52.25 crore (in all versions)
The opening day collections of WAR is also highest opening of 2019 beating the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Bharat, which collected Rs 41.80 crore on its first day. The budget of WAR is Rs 200 Crore (Production Cost: 180 Crore, Prints & Advertising Cost: 20 Crore). The action film is directed by Siddarth Anand and is produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
