SINGAPORE — Authorities in China and around the world are in a race to contain a deadly coronavirus – originating from Wuhan – that’s fast-spreading throughout Asia and the globe.
To date, the epidemic has surpassed the recorded infection and fatality figures for the 2002-2003 Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak.
Its first-ever case was detected on 31 December. The COVID-19 virus is likely to have come from an
animal source at Huanan Seafood Market in Wuhan, which reportedly also sold live foxes, crocodiles, wolf puppies, giant salamanders, snakes, porcupines, camel meat and other game, in addition to seafood.
