A mother has been left heartbroken after her child died when she was allegedly left alone in a hot car.

Police said the family’s babysitter, Tammie Brooks, picked up two-year-old Zariah Hasheme at 6.30am on Tuesday and was meant to drop her off at nursery, but instead drove to work.

Brooks, 41, of Hobbs in the US state of New Mexico, has been arrested and accused of leaving in her car resulting in her death.

Zariah’s mother, Demi Petrowski, says she had six miscarriages before conceiving her toddler

“The child was left unattended in a car seat for several hours until Brooks realised the child was still in the car after running an errand,” police said.

Paramedics were called to the scene about 1.27pm, but the toddler couldn’t be saved.

The temperature in Hobbs reached about 33C that day.

Brooks has been charged with abandonment or abuse of a child resulting in death.

The medical examiner will now conduct an autopsy of the little girl’s body.

The girl’s parents, Demi Petrowski and Zachary Hasheme, told local news station KOB4 that Brooks was babysitting Zariah.

Ms Petrowski told the station she had six miscarriages before giving birth to her miracle baby.

"I remember praying every single day, non-stop,” she said.

"I would not wish this pain and this hurt upon my worst enemy.”

GoFundMe page has been established to pay for Zariah’s funeral.
